Unlike Indonesian students who can study abroad, there are still unfortunate children who even can’t go to school. While the children on their age are having education, they have to roam around the city to make money. Moreover, they are not only fulfill their needs, but also their family needs, maybe because their parents can’t provide enough money for the needs of their family. Contsequently, there are many of them who suffer from illiteracy. Whereas, they are the future generation of Indonesia. Who wants many of Indonesian future suffer from illiteracy? No one! So, I think there are two steps for us, the government, and social organization to do to set them free from illiteracy.
First, we start an emergency schooling program for them. We ask our friends to teach them to read, so that they aren’t illiterate anymore. Besides, we are not only teach them to read, but we also teach them another basic knowledge. For instance, we teach them about basic math in order to sharpen their logic skill. Second, we give them books, so that in their spare times they can read books, both for having a lot of informations and also for entertaining them. For this step, we can do some ways. First way, we collect our books and we also can ask our friends to collect their books, too. Then, we search slum areas as the object fot the receiver of the books. After that, we choose the most appropriate slum area. Finally, we go to the slum area that we’ve chose, and give them the books. Second way, we ask the government or social organization to make a walking library for them and we also can donate our books for those unfortunate children through the organization.
As Indonesian civilized human being, we can’t just ignore when we see the illiterate children. We have to help them, we have to set them free from illiteracy, in order to make all of Indonesian next generation be smarter. So, a few years later, I hope there will be no more illiteracy and poverty, and I also hope every children can have education properly.
